Jonathan and Rachel’s wedding day unfolded in Wanaka, by the lake, surrounded by mountains that seemed to stretch in every direction. The morning started quietly in the mountains, with Rachel getting ready as the light slowly filled the space. It felt calm, almost like the day was taking its time.
We later made our way to Edgewater, where everything began to come together. Rachel slipped into her gown, and not long after, she made her way to Rippon Hall in a vintage Kombi. Seeing the place for the first time was something else. Rippon sits right by Lake Wanaka, with vineyards stretching out toward the water and the Southern Alps rising in the distance. It is the kind of setting that does not try too hard but stays with you.
That night, just as the reception was in full swing, the power went out. No one made a big deal out of it. Guests slowly gathered by the fireplace, and the program carried on from there. It ended up being one of the most memorable parts of the day.
Looking back, the whole experience still feels surreal. Being there, that far from home, trusted to document something like this is not something I take lightly.
